Platelet rich plasma (PRP) is obtained by having a regular blood test and then spinning this sample of blood which then separates out the platelet rich part of the plasma.​ Platelets naturally occur in your own blood and can be injected back into injured parts of your own body, where by a complex process involving the release of growth factors, it has been shown to be effective in aiding in healing of all tendonitis, ligament injuries, sprains and osteoarthritis of any joint. ​Advantages of this treatment is that is a completely natural treatment. Although occasionally an injection can resolve pain completely, much more often it just provides temporary or partial relief, although it can usually be repeated in future if required.
