Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP) Orthopaedic Injections

Platelet rich plasma (PRP) is obtained by having a regular blood test and then spinning this sample of blood which then separates out the platelet rich part of the plasma.

Platelets naturally occur in your own blood and part of their function is to stimulate healing. Therefore the platelet rich plasma can be injected back into injured parts of your own body, where by a complex process involving the release of growth factors, it has been shown to be effective in aiding in healing of all tendonitis, ligament injuries, sprains and osteoarthritis of any joint.

Advantages of this treatment is that is a completely natural treatment and therefore there are no steroid related risks associated with it.

Although occasionally an injection can resolve pain completely, much more often it just provides temporary or partial relief, although it can usually be repeated in future if required. The success depends on how severe the underlying condition is - the more advanced it is, the less likely the injection is to work, and it may not even help at all. In this case, a scan or specialist review is usually recommended – let us know and we will help guide you on this.

Please note we currently do not offer PRP for cosmetics at our clinic.
